There is a flower show even more spectacular than the Keukenhof. Floriade is really an amazing undertaking for such a small country as Holland. It is the World Horticulture Expo that happens once every 10 years in a Dutch city, from April 5 to October 7, 2012 it is situated near Venlo in Limburg province.
The Floriade Park covers 66 hectares and encompasses 5 unique themed worlds separated by wooded areas. In one of the woods there is a soundscape. The voice seemed friendly but no words could be identified until it was revealed they were the latin names of plants being played at a very slow speed.
Lots of creativity and science at Floriade. Every day “Close - act’s” :beautiful stilt walkers greet visitors, they are so graceful; moving slowly forward with their great wings and stature. Many countries are represented and even the bees have their own pavilion. A gondola spans the site giving a bird’s eye view and the feet a much needed rest. It would take more than a few days to explore all that Floriade has to offer. Keukenhof in the west and Floriade in the east, two very good reasons to be in Holland this spring.
