This book is a comprehensive field guide to about 700 species of plants found in the area between the Rockies and Coast mountains. It is presented in a compact 5”x 8” size making it easy to carry with you in the field. It has detailed descriptions of each species and is profusely illustrated with colour pictures and drawings.
For each species the description contains the common and Latin names, a ‘general’ description of the plant, leaves, flowers, fruit, ecology, and a short list of similar species. Notes complete the description which usually add some useful information on identification, use, origin of the name etc. Pictures are clear and very colourful.
The book starts off with an 18 page introduction to the area covered. Included in this is a section on Aboriginal plant use.
A key is presented to the major plant family groups, and then for each group in turn throughout the book.
While the book is older - first printed in 1996, because of its compact nature and comprehensive information, it is a must have for Interior gardeners.
