Despite the windstorm that took over the city the morning of February 25th, the VanDusen Floral Hall was a buzz! Packs of seeds were studied, queried and snatched up by the eager hands of local gardeners and urban farmers. There were activities and crafts for the kids and helpful seminars for the adults. Perennials, shrubs, apple trees, blueberry plants and shitake mushroom kits were sold at hot prices.
The day was a complete success. Arms laden with garden books, seeds and a couple new plants to start their year off right, happy customers chatted away, day dreaming about their future garden all while bundling back up to face the day’s cold and wicked winds.
With all of that in mind it’s time to plan your spring and summer gardens. To get an early start on our spring growing season, now is the time to start sowing indoors. Soon enough it will be time to direct sow outside as well. So don’t procrastinate, if you haven’t already picked up your seeds, get to it, and get planting!
