Can I grow English cucumbers in this climate? (May 2018)

You can grow English cucumbers but there are precautions that need to taken to ensure good results.

Long English cucumbers need to grow in warm conditions with plenty of sun and require trellising to keep the fruit hanging so as to not touch the ground. Long   cucumbers are parthenocarpic, which is the natural or artificially induced production of fruit without fertilization. This also explains the cucumberís lack of seeds. The flowers produced are female only and if accidentally fertilized by a male of another variety the resulting fruit would likely be lumpy and misshapen. This also explains why they are generally grown in greenhouses to prevent other variety pollination.

Long English cucumbers can be grown as a single variety in an open garden as long as there are no other cucumber varieties within a 35metre (110 foot) radius.
